So You Want to Time the Bottom of the Market?

Kelsey Easton May 13, 2024

In a city like Austin, where the skyline rises as rapidly as the temperatures in July, timing the bottom of the market can feel like a high-stakes game of chess. From the ebbs and flows of interest rates to the ever-shifting landscape of supply and demand, the quest to pinpoint the perfect moment to buy can feel like a whirlwind romance, thrilling and unpredictable. While I don't have a crystal ball that can show me the fate of Austin's real estate market, I'm here to share with you industry insights that can make a decision to buy or sell a little bit easier.

Don't Wait For A Perfect Market

When interest rates trickle up, demand usually slows, and prices begin to gradually decrease. When interest rates start to drop, demand starts to pick up and prices will start to increase. (Sometimes resulting in multiple offer scenarios as the market can become more competitive in certain areas.) Now I'm not here to run you through the principles of economics, but this is an important lens to look through when analyzing the current market.

While values can shift on a month-by-month basis, remember that real estate is a great long-term investment that will increase in value over time. The key to today's market is not to try and time the bottom of the market, but yet seek out quality that will stand the test of time. The secret is finding a house that can age like fine wine. Maybe it's loaded with unique upgrades or it's in a popular area of town. Take advantage of a slower market and you may just be able to find your dream home that checks all of your boxes. And when the time comes and you're ready to sell, even in a sluggish market, your home will sell.

The Best Time To Buy In Austin

The spring season always sparkles with activity as many buyers flock to the market to secure a home before summer's end and before school starts in August. For savvy home seekers, the autumn and winter seasons offer a prime window of opportunity, as the colder seasons offer potential discounts and a more negotiable landscape. Navigating a home purchase requires a balance of proper timing and financial preparedness.

Remember- real estate is hyperlocal and market insights vary across different neighborhoods. Know that I'm here to help strategize what's in your best interest so we can accomplish your real estate goals.
